For nearly 50 years, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been one of the primary responders to disease outbreaks and global health crises. As more than 95 per cent of our funding comes from private donors like you – rather than from governments or large institutions – we have the freedom to act based on medical need alone.

From our operations to our fundraising, this needs-based approach is at the core of everything we do. We only restrict funding during catastrophes so severe we need extra support to respond — and where we can be sure every dollar raised will be used for that specific emergency.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues its rapid global spread, the need for MSF’s medical programs is greater than ever. This is why we have launched the COVID-19 Crisis Fund. The fund will specifically support the development of dedicated COVID-19 programs and the adaptations of our regular medical programs that are affected by the pandemic.

MSF is calling on our global community of supporters to help us raise $226 million for the COVID-19 Crisis Fund, and we are asking our supporters in Canada to help us reach this goal. Every donation makes a difference.

Organizers and participants of TKD Kicks Corona — the world’s largest ever tae kwon do class, with 1,500 students worldwide — raised almost $9,000 for MSF’s COVID-19 Crisis Fund. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Celebrating a major milestone with Aeroplan’s Beyond Miles Program

The team at MSF Canada is humbled and inspired by the commitment of all of our supporters, including Aeroplan, one of our most generous corporate partners. MSF is a founding member of the Aeroplan Beyond Miles program, which allows its members to donate their Miles to several important charitable causes, including MSF.

Since the beginning of our partnership in 2006, Aeroplan and its members have donated close to 250 million miles to MSF, translating into thousands of flights for our staff. This helps our teams get where they are needed and ensures more funding supports our medical programs.

In addition to the Beyond Miles program, Aeroplan has supported MSF during large-scale emergencies such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Thank you to Aeroplan employees who volunteer their time to participate in MSF’s Missing Maps. This initiative helps map areas where we work that are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters, conflicts and disease epidemics.

We remain grateful to this program and to the Miles members, whose generous contributions are vital in enabling MSF’s medical humanitarian work.
