Freddie is a Canadian health organization that works to provide healthcare for the LGBTQ2S+ community. Following the devastating earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye in February, the team at Freddie decided to host a fundraising event in support of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)’s general fund.
Undesignated gifts give our teams the flexibility to respond whenever and wherever people’s needs are greatest in more than 70 countries around the world, including in Syria and Türkiye. When disasters strike, we can act fast to provide people with emergency medical assistance, without waiting for public funds to be released.
“As Freddie’s objective is to increase access to healthcare for underserved communities, MSF’s mandate resonates with us immensely,” says Thomas Iglesias Trombetta, Freddie senior manager of community and development. “Given recent years’ increased global political instability and the consequent need for support, we wanted to do our part in helping such an essential organization.”
BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER
More than 250 people attended the evening, which included a drag show by Canada’s top drag performers, a meet- and-greet, a silent auction and 50/50 tickets. The fundraiser was a huge success, raising $10,000 to support MSF’s emergency medical work globally – exceeding Freddie’s original goal of $8,000. A huge thank you to the team at Freddie and everyone who attended.
